Biography
Polish born Antoinette Starkiewicz came
to Australia in 1960. Trained since the age of four
in singing and dancing, she became interested in the visual arts, and studied painting and
graphics at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Wishing to combine the things she loved most: entertainment and drawing, music and dancing,
she went to England to learn the technique of animation at the London Film School. There she
made her first animated film Puttin’ On The Ritz which was enthusiastically received at its
international premiere in Zagreb ’74.
On her return to Australia, she quickly gained a reputation for her distinctive work, and
has delighted audiences all over the world with her originality and verve. Her films have
been shown at numerous international festivals and are housed in the collections of some of
the world’s leading film libraries and art galleries.
She most recently exhibited at Michael Nagy Fine Art in Yellow House Now (December 1999),
in a group show with fellow former Yellow House artists Martin Sharp, Greg Weight, Garry
Shead and more.
